Q. When we spot a pod of manatees is there a chance we will see a newborn manatee?

A.  Yes and it is an amazing experience! Manatee calves are about 3-4 feet long and weigh about 60-70 pounds at birth. The average adult manatee is about 9.8 feet long and weighs between 800-1,200 pounds.




Q.  Do Dolphins ever play in the wake of the boat?

A.  Yes - This is a frequent occurrence. Dolphins love following the boat, jumping and twirling in the wake. Have your cameras ready!!!




Q.  Will I see sand on the beaches of Southwest Florida?

A.  Yes - in between 400+ species of shells there will be enough sand for your tootsies. Imagine showing off to your family & friends a Florida Fighting Conch, Lighting Whelk, Alphabet Cone or a True Tulip to your family and friends back home.




Q.   Will Captain John charter us to the famous restaurant that has thousands of one-dollar bills taped to every surface?

A.  Absolutely! Enjoy Cabbage Key’s unique dining experience………. rumor has it that Jimmy Buffet wrote Cheeseburger in Paradise after enjoying their famous cheeseburger. Also enjoy their beautiful nature trails. You may even stumble across a gopher tortoise.

Q.  What should we pack for the day?

A.  SPF sunscreen lotion is a must because the sun is quite strong for most of the year. 

 Cameras and video cameras are welcome aboard but have the possibility of getting wet.
 A variety of snacks, foods and drinks. No bananas as they are bad luck.
 A sweatshirt in case it gets chilly on the water.




Q.  What should we wear on the boat?

A. You should go for function over form.

Lightweight breathable clothing.
Comfortable shoes. For your safety please avoid sandals or flip-flops without non-skid soles.
Hats for all passengers.
Polarized sunglasses for all passengers.




Q.   Is Conway Charters kid friendly?

A.  Absolutely! Captain John takes pride in teaching children how to become anglers. He loves nothing more than assisting children in catching their very first fish, which is a memory they will cherish for a lifetime. NOTE: Conway Charters welcomes children ages 2 and up with supervising adults. All children under 6 years of age are required by the state of Florida to wear a flotation device at all times.




Q.  Does the Captain make things easy?

A.  Absolutely! Captain John will bait your hook, cast your rod and take your fish off the end of your line. If you want to take your catch home no worries as John will clean and bag the fresh catch of the day.




Q.  How many passengers are allowed on Conway Charters?

A.  Conway Charters can accommodate up to 4 passengers plus the Captain




Q.  What is a customary tip for the Captain?

A.  As a general rule and based on service tipping 15-20% of the charter price is appreciated.




Q.  Where do we meet the boat?

A.  Conway Charters will pick you up dockside at locations throughout Lee County, which include but are not limited to Pine Island, Sanibel, Cape Coral, Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach. Please schedule your pickup location with the Captain upon booking.




Q.  Are alcoholic beverages allowed?

A.  Absolutely!  Passengers 21 years of age and older are welcome to drink responsibly.




Q.  Do we need a fishing permit?

A.  Fishing licenses are required. However, Conway Charters is pleased to provide one for each passenger FREE of charge.




Q.  What are the most sought-after fish and game?

A.  Grouper * Mangrove Snapper * Redfish * Sea Trout * Shark * Snook * Tarpon




Q.  What other types of fish are biting?

Q.  What happens to the fish that we catch?

A.  The fish and game caught on Conway Charters is the property of the passenger, that’s you! You are welcome to keep all legal sized fish and game that is in season. However, we do promote catch and release.




Q.  If we catch a trophy fish, how do we make arrangements to mount it?

A.  Conway Charters will be happy to assist with the arrangements of having your trophy mounted.




Q.  Can we bring our own gear and tackle?

A.  Absolutely! Please notify the Captain in advance if you plan on doing so.




Q.  Do you provide services that are not fishing related?

A.  Absolutely! Conway Charters provides multiple activities for everyone to enjoy. These FUN activities include:

Cruising and learning about the Barrier Island History
Dining Destinations - Breakfast and lunch trips to North Captiva, Cabbage Key, Boca Grande, etc…
Dolphins at play which is one of the most sought-after experiences in Southwest Florida.
Eco tours showcasing different species of tropical plants and wildlife in their natural habitat. Some of the birds that you encounter are Egrets, Herons, Pelicans, Osprey and the occasional Bald Eagle.

A.  Shells without occupants are yours to keep. Shells with occupants must be left on our beaches, as it is illegal to remove them.

A.  Conway Charters complies with all rules and regulations of the United States Coastguard, National Marine Fisheries Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
